Dartmoor: Some Tors North of Two Bridges (Part 1)

Longaford Tor

My second tor bagging outing from Two Bridges aiming to reach as far north as Crow Tor but in really hot weather. Luckily, the rivers were relatively low so made them passable which I took to my advantage. The family followed me for part of the walk before turning back because of the heat and for the dogs' health.

Out of Two Bridges, we took a quick look at the Quarry Tor before taking the common route past Crockern Farm and up to Crockern Tor itself. I see that Hemery and Crossing have a lot to say about its lower levels at Parliament Rock, but to me, it's just an average tor. Although having said that I'm not a history enthusiast.

It is easy-going, following the ridgeline on the path to Little Bee Tor. My second visit to this small tor and yet I have never seen the rock basin atop its summit. I would just pass by en route to a larger tor, likely because Little Bee Tor always has people on it. I must remedy that someday.

Littaford Tors were in the bag quickly, two sets of outcrops on a spur.

Then, Little Longaford Tor. I like this small compact outcrop of granite but Longaford Tor ahead dominates the northward view.

However, Little Longaford Tor could also be that tor immediately to the south of Longaford Tor itself and is, due to its proximity to it, often regarded as an outlier. However, this could be a contender for what Eric Hemery calls Little Longaford Tor in his book High Dartmoor, although most favour the previous outcrop I visited equidistant from Littaford and Longaford Tors.

Longaford Tor is a favourite for me, I love this huge mountain of granite and grass. The views are great and I like the elevation it possesses. I climbed to the top and enjoyed the views on this hot day.

Whilst the family headed off into Wistman's Wood I would be left into unexplored territory, and so it makes sense for me to end this short blog post here with the continuation here.
