It seems that these days I only write a blog post if there's snow involved. I don't think anyone - even the Met Office - were anticipating this much snowfall over a short period of time. On 21st November 2025 parts of southern England received a lot of snow - in places about 20cm over the high ground - which came early for the time of year
Knowing too well that it would be careless to risk mine and others' lives by driving onto the moor proper, I parked lower down at Trendlebere Down, below the snow line.
I completed a circular walk, the route not planned, taking in: Greator Bridge, Lower Greator Rocks, Greator Rocks, Houndtor Down, Frenchangers Corner, Harefoot Cross, White (Hemsworthy) Gate, Rippon Tor, Saddle Tor, Fitches' Holt, Emsworthy Rocks, Little Holwell Tor, Holwell Tor, and Black Hill Rocks.
I think my phone lost a percentage of its battery at Holwell Tor because of the cold. It has never done this before, nor since.

This has been, to date, one of the best walks I've ever done; only 10 miles but not easy because of the dense snow. It was so magical being up there alone for almost the entire walk. I bumped into
Neil Burnell on Emsworthy Rocks and had a good chat.
